"For the times they are a-changin" sang some tangle-haired guy my old flatmate used to play all the time in his bedroom, words relevant to the unavoidable fact Tāmaki Makaurau's iconic The Wine Cellar host their final gigs this week. Lynchpin of our live music community for now over two decades, the beloved Karangahape Road dive bar has just announced a final closing bash to pull the plug in style — starring world-conquering power-pop champs The Beths, Pasifika post-punk trailblazer LEAO (who just unveiled their new two track release 'TAEAO / MEA UMA'), poet / author / playwright Dominic Hoey and a legion of local regulars on the decks (including myself) "spinning tunes in The Wine Cellar bar from 5pm til the bitter end". Come get weepy with us this Saturday and give thanks to proprietor Rohan Evans and The Wine Cellar team for a massively impactful tenure. "After 20 years serving the NZ music community as one of our most iconic and important music venues, this Saturday will be THE FINAL SHOW at The Wine Cellar.

The venue will soon be taking on a new life as the mighty up-sized Double Whammy but before then, it's time to give the greatest send off of all to The Wine Cellar, it's crew, bands, bar flies, and legendary Owner / Soundie / Uncle Rohan Evans for turning this K Rd bunker into a cherished home to so many people.

To celebrate the occasion, globe-trotting indie superstars The Beths will be returning to perform a special final set at the venue where it all began alongside the incredible Pasifika DIY rockers LEAO and punk poet laureate Dominic Hoey.

To help you drink the bar dry, a roster of Wine Cellar stalwarts will be spinning tunes in The Wine Cellar bar from 5pm til the bitter end.

Tickets to the show are limited but if you miss out, don't be shy about coming down to tell a teary-eyed Rohan what a legend he is for his decades of service to the weirdos of the music community (so far).
