Mike Hall (Pluto) 'Nothing Stands Still' Debut Solo Album Release Show Announced

Mike Hall has been stalwart of Aotearoa's music community from his nineties hardcore punk days as singer of Balance, through tenures as bassist with The Brunettes, Dimmer, Tami Neilson and many more, running in parallel to his multi-decade work as core member of Pluto. Spurred into action by a late-night car break-in / missing hard drive disaster and subsequent nudging from producer Jol Mulholland — who "pointed out that no-one was ever going to hear the material anyway, right? Challenge laid down" — Nothing Stands Still is the debut solo album from Hall, reimagining and reinventing seven years of lost recordings (!) as a nine track long player out in full on 16th August.

Hall sounds akin to a lost Finn family member with a Beatles-y spring in his step, unleashing the woozy melodies and zippy guitars of brand new lead single 'Stop Dragging Me Round'. Also featuring instrumental contributions from Mulholland (who "played the bulk of guitars and drums"), Brett Adams, Matthias Jordan and Alistair Deverick, Hall is playing a strictly limited capacity release show for his long-awaited solo album at Tāmaki Makaurau's Freida Margolis. Preorder the vinyl LP edition of Nothing Stands Still HERE and don't miss Hall with Xani Hall on 18th September...

"Hall’s ambitions for this record? Simply to get it out into the world, so that some good can come from that stolen hard drive back in 2018. So, to the car thieves: cheers! But if you did ever want to return the hard drive, maybe there could be a second album".
