Spin back the wheels of time to revisit this week's coverage of Earth Tongue, Death and the Maiden, Joe Ghatt, beet-wix, Anna Coddington and Joe Kaptein, then explore more new / recent Aotearoa release highlights by salvia palth, Eli Superflyy, Aunty Rae, Ringlets, Pretty Dumb, Bill Direen / Bilders, and Jo Kaptein (again!).

Achieving eye-watering streaming levels and a dedicated global fanbase for 2013's classic melanchole, Aotearoa songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / producer salvia palth aka Daniel Johann Lines reemerged this week with his first album using that moniker in over a decade. Bearing a title alluding to Douglas Adams' 1989 travel memoir, last chance to see is a straight up stunning thirteen track work, uncompromising in aural execution and home-crafted during a seven year period, catalysed by the passing of Lines' father in 2020. "I didn’t make anything for a year after his death but it became the emotional crux of the whole album. These are platonic love songs decontextualised”.

Giving away nothing less than a whole f*****n car (!) as promo for his forthcoming MOTOR album release tour (nab tickets to be in the draw HERE), Eli Superflyy today dished up fuzz-pop earworm 'No No' plus enjoyably eye-zapping visuals, directed / shot / edited by Damin McCabe and Riley Coughlin.

Holly Afoa's musical alter-ego Aunty Rae shoots for pop / R&B stardom with new banger 'Stop Calling Me' — "dedicated to your failed Tinder (Bumble, Hinge, Grindr) match from two years ago".

Oh Ringlets! Pick of the crop at Tāmaki Makaurau's packed-out JUNK fest earlier this month, the post-punk four-piece invite fans to chomp on a crisp DIY-style clip for 'New Life', out now on 7" vinyl disc via Flying Nun / Leather Jacket Records — backed with head-scratching spoken word skit track 'Scam Me'.

Pretty Dumb state their case as "basically the best band in NZ" with the Ōtepoti group's rowdy and rambunctious seven song album dum6$how, aka "the last album u get frm us 4eva". That's at least two solid reasons to crank it up.

A fourteen track collaboration between pioneering Aotearoa songwriter and poet Bill Direen with Matt Swanson and Alex McManus (both of Nashville's Lambchop), Bilders' Dustbin of Empathy is out in full on 2nd August via Sophomore Lounge and Grapefruit Records — hear lead single 'Citizens of Nowhere'

Launching his fifth album in less than twelve months Eternal Afternoon this July, Tāmaki Makaurau's multi-instrumental whirlwind of productivity Jo Kaptein capped off NZ Music Month with Ode To Burt, a tribute to and reinvention of a selection of Burt Bacharach's timelessly resonating works. Feel your sophistication levels reach unprecedented heights upon listening.
