Watch Office Dog's Video For New Single 'Gleam'
Shimmering from the cracks of a treasure trove about to be cranked open by several paws, Tāmaki's Office Dog share their new single ‘Gleam’ from their upcoming debut album Spiel — out on 15th September via Flying Nun Records. The Ōtepoti-bred trio of frontman Kane Strang, bassist Rassani Tolovaa and drummer Mitchell Innes run amuck in a quarry “in the grime of the night” in their accompanying music video. Directed by Sophie Black and set at a quarry in Duder Regional Park, the glow of the boys’ glitter suits and stage presence are captured on camera by Pepe de Hoyos. Through the pleading lyrics over the fever dream sound of the track, ‘Gleam’ strives to embrace the glimmers of hope that are people — who can be hard sought in difficult times. This interplay between light and shadow, both literal and figurative, makes up their forthcoming record. Two-thirds of the Office Dog pack (Strang and Innes), will be making up the live band of fellow Tāmaki-based artist Violet Hirst on her Donegal album release tour from tomorrow, with Strang playing an opening set on 12th August at Maggies in Ōtepoti. Catch the hounds live, chomp your jaws on a limited edition clear vinyl pre-order and note the content warning: strobing imagery for Office Dog's new video…
“Throughout Spiel’s lyrics, there are a lot of metaphors that have to do with light and dark spaces, probably because it's essentially a record about change and time”, Vocalist and guitarist Kane Strang muses about the song. “I love ‘Gleam’ because it's one of the more hopeful tracks, with the "gleam in the grime" for me representing something/someone that is a positive force and worth chasing down or holding on to.”
'Spiel' launches on Friday 15th September on CD, black vinyl LP, limited clear vinyl LP and across all digital streaming platforms via Flying Nun Records — preorders available HERE.
