Listen To Bad Taste's New Album 'Bad Taste II'
When Young Gho$t says "it's about to get choppy" on 'Judgement Day', the second track from Bad Taste's new album II, you'd best believe it. Unless you've been cloistered away from good local tunes like some kind of ascetic monk for the past few years, you'll know Bad Taste are "the perfect team" of Pōneke by way of London rapper Young Gho$t and production wiz / world DMC DJ Champion Alphabethead, doing the lower half of Te Ika-a-Māui proud with 14 tracks primed to set minds and dancefloors ablaze. Giving Callum Rooney equal credit in the liner notes for his Gilliam-esque airbrush cover artwork (plus tee designs you can cop HERE), barely a moment goes by on Bad Taste II without a fresh idea bubbling through for listeners to ponder and explore.
The pair's commitment to mind-morphing lyrical / sampladelic detail can feel a bit like falling into a Mandelbrot set projection ("on my Euclidean shit I'm spitting geometry"), but much more boogie-inducing. The fact the lead track is winkingly titled 'This Heat' tips us off the album will voyage beyond the bounds of conventional hip hop — bundling in earlier singles 'Weird Weekends', 'What's That Noise' and 'Slow Down' — but with Young Gho$t and Alphabethead at the helm you're in safe hands. Go give them a high five for absolutely bringing it on Bad Taste II at this Saturday's hometown launch party at MOON and in Tāmaki Makaurau next Friday at Whammy Bar with special guests galore, grip the full release tour details, and hit play below...
