Mice On Stilts Unveil Album 'I Am Proud of You'
More than five years in the making, Tamaki Makaurau collective Mice on Stilts have today released their third studio album, I Am Proud of You. Exploring themes of addiction, sobriety and recovery, vocalist / guitarist Benjamin Morley transforms the weighty, lyrical content on the record into introspective, poetical forms. Throughout the record, the group traverses between a sombre progressive / post-rock sound and stripped-back folk ballads, complete with string sections and intricate vocal harmonies. Produced in-house by Mice on Stilts’ saxophonist Charlie Isdale, and mixed by Tom Broome (Tim Finn, Dave Dobbyn, Teeks), I Am Proud Of You includes earlier singles 'Grey Diving Bell' and 'National Radio'. Making a rare live appearance for their album release show, the full band of Andrew Isdale, Tim Shacklock, Rob Sanders, Sam Loveridge, Charlie Isdale and Benjamin Morley are performing on the 25th of March at Tamaki Makaurau's The Wine Cellar...
"Kia ora te whānau
Today is the day. We've spent the last 5 or so years putting together this collection of songs and now we let them out into the world to walk on their own two feet. We hope you enjoy these tracks. Personally, it's been a real joy working on this album.
I am Proud of You is essentially a story of getting sober and all the things that detail that journey. For myself, sobriety has been a blessing and I would not have the wonderful things in my life that I do without it.
Give the album a spin or two and see if it takes your fancy. If you like it, please share it around and we'd love to know what you think of it. Sometimes when you work on something so long you lose touch with whether or not something is good haha.
See you on the 25th, we are playing a good chunk of these songs."
