Grecco Romank Unveil Single / Video 'Romance Writer' + Announce Tour Supports

Emerging from their studio lair to regale punters across Aotearoa with songs from their feverishly anticipated new album Wet Exit, Tāmaki Makaurau's Grecco Romank have revealed special guests for each date of their first ever headline tour. Inarguably one of Aotearoa's most thrilling live acts of any genre, the industrial strength techno / EBM trio of Damian Golfinopoulos, Billie Fee and Mikey Sperring will be joined on their autumn quest by local supports Bird Party, Glass Shards, Goya, HŌHĀ, Lust Trigger, Michael Logie and Moider Mother — Ōtautahi's new "wholesome family band" featuring Nick Hart of Shocking Pinks.

They've also unveiled today steamy new single 'Romance Writer' plus a straight up stunner of a video to match, directed / produced by Britt Walton (Ladyhawke, Viva) and made with support from NZ On Air. Recalling the baroque new wave visual creations that graced our airwaves during the music television era, you will be spellbound as the impeccably stylish trio shed light upon the glamorous, bordering on decadent interior life of a professional author who writes "for pleasure" — joined in the clip by acclaimed pianist Hermione Johnson.

"Most of our songs don’t present our point of view - but instead the perspective of the characters we conjure. This freedom to inhabit the thoughts and of a cast of characters and perspectives gives the Grecco Romank project a sense of range and dynamism. We can be terrible, arch and severe entities from dystopian worlds or… a romance writer, of the Mills & Boon variety, down and out. His schtick wearing thin. Even his leading heroine becomes possessed with free will, and by the end of Romance Writer she has abandoned the author to a writers block.

Romance Writer is probably the only song we’ve written that is explicitly about a subject, and it borders on being comedy, but once again: having two vocalists is a sure fire way of letting us switch up tone."
