Officially "the digital subsidiary" of Unsanitary Napkin, Displeasure rewire the Aotearoa anarcho-punk trio's outrage through digital hardcore circuitry on their debut album Vortex of Shit. Featuring the same three members in a freshly recalibrated band format — adding in a sampler (for basslines) and drum-triggered electronics — the group's nine track collection was recorded and mixed by Vanya Vitali at Slimebag in Te Horo, adorned by beautifully intricate, Mœbius-like artwork by Daily Secretion.

Tackling "the swirling mess of scaremongering bullshit rearing its increasingly ugly head in political discourse in Aotearoa", Displeasure's dystopic vision starts local with 'FUCK YOUR UTE', gazing into outer space on the SpaceX-decrying 'LIFE ON MARS IS SHIT'. Like some kind of politically laser-focussed Devo / Six Finger Satellite, the trio bust out furiously catchy and whip-smart, almost New Wavey hooks — feeling aptly sci-fi in their critique of Western capitalism's increasingly absurd, neototalitarian anti-human death drive (and accompanying symptoms). "Displeasure is the digital subsidiary of Unsanitary Napkin. Vortex of Shit is Displeasure's first release - nine tracks of dystopian anarcho-punk and digital hardcore. Equal parts furious and catchy, the songs deal with the swirling mess of scaremongering bullshit rearing its increasingly ugly head in political discourse in Aotearoa. In the year 2022, things have reached the point where disgruntled science-denying farmers are teaming up with perverse public toilet-obsessed transphobes, raging anti-vaxxers and evangelical megachurch despots in a horrific whirlpool of shit ideas manipulated by white supremacists and alt-right trolls - with all of their delusional social media outrage pumped by cynical algorithms to swell the profits of hypercapitalist billionaires and their colonial space-fantasies. Vortex of Shit highlights the absurdity of this trajectory, and stresses the urgency of solidarity in dismantling the extractive capitalist core driving the whole enterprise.
