Kraus Shares Single / Video 'Crush On Ice' + New Collection 'Chronic Illness'

Tāmaki Makaurau's soothsayer of sound Kraus has many exciting pots on the boil this spring, including his forthcoming new album Fire! Water! Air! Kraus! and an innovative pair of underwater music / listening events happening in Pōneke. Gifting listeners "a bunch of super fresh recordings from my current live set," Chronic Illness is a newly released nine track collection of entrancing electronic creations out digitally and on cassette via Finland's Artsy Records, sporting an entirely different tracklisting to his imminent long player. An artist who lives with chronic pain due to an autoimmune condition, Kraus described his feelings and intentions for the collection...

“For over 20 years I’ve lived with an autoimmune condition that causes severe skeletal damage, chronic pain and debilitating fatigue. Living with chronic illness is extremely challenging, physically and mentally. This music — romantic, mystical, soothing, obtuse, a sonic fantasy — is an attempt to provide comfort and distraction for myself and, hopefully, for others coping with daily pain. I hope it can be helpful to you in some way.”

Peering into the future, Kraus unveiled late last week absolutely beaut new single and video 'Crush on Ice', from Fire! Water! Air! Kraus! Edited by the Aotearoa artist with contributions from Gemma Syme (Instant Fantasy) and Clementine Nixon (Purple Pilgrims), the clip invites viewers to ponder the mystical resonances and fractal-like complexities of a procession of crystals, as the gently melodic tune sounds not unlike the creation of an Arthurian court musician who has somehow got their hands on some 20th Century electronic gear (perhaps via the power of Merlin).

Happening just after Fire! Water! Air! Kraus! releases on 28th October, Kraus is collaborating with Pyramid Club for "a new 60 minute suite of music created especially for underwater listening environments" entitled Seahorse Wedding — to be presented as a public underwater concert at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie, plus as an individual underwater listening experience at Float Well float tank centre.
