The mega-brains behind F In Math and bass player for such iconic Aotearoa groups as The Mint Chicks and Die! Die! Die!, Tāmaki Makaurau's Michael Logie casually unveiled late last week his first solo release since 2011. Logie's debut single under his own name, instrumental 'MASK' is an ever-mutating swirl of synthetic textures and dancefloor compatible rhythms, teasingly shifting gears into fusion territory in the tune's closing moments. I can hear hints of Boards Of Canada dreaminess bubbling through, Actress ominousness or even Tlaotlon-like attention to detail, but that's probably just me (astral) projecting.
