Hans Pucket Announce New Album 'No Drama' + Share Single / Video 'My Brain Is A Vacant Space'
It's a big beautiful Friday for Aotearoa releases, kicking off with the first official (non-Christmas) new single from Hans Pucket since their breakout 2018 debut album Eczema. Out today courtesy of blue chip US imprint Carpark Records (home to The Beths, Chelsea Jade, Madeline Kenney and more), the brisk, funk-fuelled angular guitar pop of 'My Brain Is A Vacant Space' marks a confident return from twin brothers Oliver and Callum Devlin (Sports Team, Dateline), Jono Nott (Onono, Broods) and recent addition Callum Passells. Blending playful, exuberant energy and a self-effacing worldview not unlike an Antipodean Orange Juice, 'My Brain Is A Vacant Space' tackles the ever-present issue of social anxiety — with an exasperated Oliver Devlin singing "I want to have a different disease."
Hans Pucket have really done fans a solid this morning, as 'My Brain Is A Vacant Space' is the lead single from just-announced album number two No Drama, recorded with Jonathan Pearce of The Beths and launching via Carpark Records on 4th November. The cherry on top is surely director Samuel Austin's video for 'My Brain Is A Vacant Space' — an endearingly farcical class photo scenario starring Callum Passells as a photographer, Jono Nott as teacher, Callum Devin as the janitor and Oliver Devlin slotting in the mix of high schoolers as a convincingly anxious teen. Produced by Sport Team and made with support from NZ On Air, hit play on the clip below and preorder your own vinyl LP edition of No Drama HERE, plus exclusive Flying Out colourway HERE...
"This song deals with social anxiety, the fear of boring other people, and the struggle to say anything you really mean... I think part of it comes from worrying about people’s expectations of you, so you act in a certain way. The whole thing is exhausting." — Oliver Devlin
“People say ‘no drama’ all the time when they really mean at least, ‘some drama'... It works because No Drama is actually a super dramatic record.” — Callum Devlin
'My Brain Is A Vacant Space' is out now on major streaming services via Carpark Records.
