Tāmaki Makaurau's Soft Bait have made one heck of a splash with 'Big', the debut single from the new post-punk configuration of Patrick Hickley (Red Sky Blues), Josh Hunter, Ezra Simons (Earth Tongue, Red Sky Blues) and Cameron Mackintosh. With an entire album already in the can, recorded with Peter Ruddell (Wax Chattels, Sulfate) during the pandemic months of mid '21 onwards and featuring Louisa Nicklin on two tracks, Soft Bait brew up a volcanic, teeth-clenching sound on 'Big'. Having a music video maestro in the band certainly doesn't hurt none, as Simons has conjured into reality a deranged barroom scenario starring the group on grainy black and white Super8 film. Catch them live lurking beneath St. Kevin's Arcade in late June / early July, including a show with southern noiseniks Night Lunch and Koizilla, and prep your ears for more Soft Bait in the near future...
