Amamelia Drops Single / Video 'Love Is Useless' feat. Junny
Tāmaki Makaurau electronic artist Amamelia aka Amelia Berry (Fimo, Van Staden & Böhm, The Forbin Project) reunites with Junny, the project of Jennifer-Rose Tamati (Te Arawa (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Mākino), Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngāpuhi) on 'Love Is Useless' — their brill new standalone single out today with an accompanying video made by Benjamin Zambo. Sounding not unlike how it feels to gaze upon the super city skyline whilst riding a lonesome late night bus over Auckland Harbour Bridge back to Birkenhead, 'Love Is Useless' is a breaks-fuelled emotional whirlpool of uplifting killer hooks and shimmering synthetic grooves. Created with assistance from NZ On Air, Zambo's deeply zoned visuals take the pair's club anthem to a whole new level, channeling the inspiration of "old live performances and public access TV — Top of the Pops, Robert Ashby’s Perfect Lives, Abba videos, YMO, The Paul Lynde Halloween Special".
Flipping through the pages of Russell Brown's pioneering '90s Planet magazine, painting landscapes and divining future mysteries with a Tarot deck, smash play Amamelia and Junny's 'Love Is Useless', listen to the Baby Zionov and Amamelia Junk Soul remixes, and don't miss Amamelia performing at The Big Fresh Collective's just-announced Whammy Warriors event on Friday 1st July (tickets HERE)...
"The idea was to treat it like a low budget variety show that we had just found and chopped-and-screwed to fit our song. That meant we could be very fun and inappropriate with our performances and costumes, and shoot extra segments that didn’t fit with anything. The song is very serious in its lyrics, so we wanted to hint at some painful past between the performers - but do it in a very stupid performative way." — Benjamin Zambo
'Love Is Useless' is out now on major streaming services via Sunreturn.
