Listen To N.T. Honey's Single 'Road Rage'
What do you get when you pitch shift down the whistle of a steam engine, run it through a Boss DS-1 and sprinkle in a dash of chainsaw? Answer: The guitar tone from ‘Road Rage’, the latest single from Tāmaki Makaurau’s riotous and twee power outfit N.T. Honey, the songwriting vehicle of Anya Henis. Coming hot off the heels of 2021’s stellar full length Accidental Punk and March's standalone single 'Moon Ritual', it’s clear this vehicle is only getting "FASTER!" Brimming with energy and enthusiasm, the song transports you back to the halcyon days of '90s college rock, tinged with an accent that can’t help but reveal its postcode. A banger filled with disdain for road-cones and traffic lights, hallmarks of the volcanic metropolis the band calls home, Henis writes:
"Auckland is synonymous with traffic and anyone who has been in a car will have experienced road rage. Turns out sitting in a car is also a great place to listen to music or write a song. I wanted to capture the speed, the slowness, the frustrations. The song sounds like a car crash but I'm hoping people can relate."
Starting off at a steady, danceable canter, the track puts the pedal to the floor before pulling a sick handbrake slide into a breakdown. Reminds me of the Southern motorway after you get past Greenlane, thinking you’ll cruise into the city at a respectable 90kmph only to learn a lesson in ‘slow living’ when you hit the Newmarket bridge.
