Listen To 'Jazz From The Underground Nightclubs Of Aotearoa Vol. 6'
It's been back-to-back releases from Aotearoa saxophonist Jeff Henderson, who features on the new Suns Alibi long player from Noa Records and is a key participant on Jazz from the Underground Nightclubs of Aotearoa Vol. 6, out now via Kiwijahzz. Volume 6 showcases shape-shifting Tāmaki Makaurau collective Trioglodyte (Henderson, Eamon Edmundsen-Wells), who kicked the whole series off back in July. They're joined by drummer Julien Dyne, Sean Martin-Buss on tenor sax and trumpet, guitarist Kat Tomacruz and Parks (also from Suns Alibi) on electronics to whip up a mind-altering cosmic whirlpool, recorded live by Rohan Evans last December at The Wine Cellar. Hopefully when the super city has made it to the traffic light zone, Trioglodyte's clearly must-attend monthly modern jazz residency will return to St Kevin's Arcade. In the meantime, soak up the masterful improvisatory journey that is Vol. 6 (including a take on Lester Bowie's 'Rios Negros' and a "radio edit" of 'Earth', mischievously trimmed from 19 minutes to 11 minutes) here...
