Empress Unleash 'Trash Dynasty' EP
We're huge fans of sonic trash in the UTR office, so we were of course stoked to tuck into Trash Dynasty, the fuzzed-out new six song offering from Tāmaki / Kirikiriroa riff-wranglers Empress. Conjuring a grungy sound much huger than should be possible from only two people, the team of Craig Gilliver and Lora Thompson describe Empress as "if Chelsea Wolf and the Melvins had a reggae baby and fed it to Courtney Love", and we're not gonna argue with that on the money delineation. Every tune feels like an anthem — from grunty opener 'Sailing the Seas of grease', to heavy slow-burner 'Theftones', to upbeat closing groover 'Oh! My Heart' — all sure to be killer live when their forthcoming tour rolls into a venue near you (hopefully Covid won't stop that happening), including Hawkes Bay's mega-stacked Sanctuary Sounds festival. Experience Empress' Trash Dynasty right here...
