Georgia Lines Unveils ‘Tōrere’ For Waiata Anthems Week
Tauranga pop songwriter Georgia Lines has taken on the challenge of recreating her 2020 single 'My Love' in te reo Māori. Titled ‘Tōrere’, the Tauranga dream-popper transformed the track with help from language coach Hana Mereraiha (Ngāi Tahu, Tainui, Te Arawa, Taranaki) at Roundhead Studios, and ended up with a killer new version of her heart-punching break-up song. As with another Māori language release from today Kono 003, 'Tōrere’ is a part of Waiata Anthems Week 2021 (6 to 12 September), "A celebration of Te Reo Māori in popular New Zealand music". But the ‘Tōrere’ roll out doesn't stop there — Georgia Lines has shared a Māori Mermaid illustrated lyric video and a special behind the scenes clip from the recording sessions.
