The solo project of Kelly Sherrod (formerly one half of Punches), Proteins of Magic's self-titled debut album is anything but minimal. Conjuring vivid sonic imagery via layers of instrumentation, Proteins Of Magic sounds huge and lavish enough to fill a concert hall. The icing on the cake is certainly Sherrod's spine-tingling vocal powers, delivering absolutely commanding performances throughout the eight track collection — the Bandcamp version (below) closing with a live version of 'Switchblade', in demonstration of just how effectively Sherrod's compositions translate to her solo live shows.
