Listen To The New Lucy Dacus Album 'Home Video'
It's been an emotional musical week, and just as I gather myself up after Roy Montgomery's new single and brush off the melancholy from Womb's EP, Lucy Dacus sucker punches me with her heart-squeezing third album Home Video. No doubt fans have had singles ‘Hot & Heavy’, 'VBS' (Vacation Bible School) and 'Brando' on repeat, unpicking and dissecting Dacus' intimate storytelling of her "coming-of-age years" in hometown Richmond, Virginia. Amongst the sometimes painfully personal lyricisms, Lucy Dacus' unwavering vocals are accompanied by her boygenius bandmates Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker — my guess would be on B-side tracks 'Going Going Gone' and 'Please Stay'. Compared to previous albums Historian and No Burden, Dacus plays further with song structure on Home Video, giving her lyrics room to breathe. Like on 'Christine', in which the memory of a church friend is recounted without clear choruses and verses, but you'll still be hanging on every word. Brace yourself, Home Video will fuck you up...
Lucy Dacus will be answering questions in the album listening party live chat tomorrow...
Lucy Dacus' third album 'Home Video' is out today on Matador Records.
