Noa Records 3-Night Pyramid Club Residency Announced
The sonic voyaging Noa Records team are returning to Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Pyramid Club in late June for a special residency project. The three night series of events will showcase performances by the collective's WhyFi. (Larsen Tito-Taylor), Leao (David Feauai-Afaese) and Strangelove (Navakatoa Tekela-Pule), along with Noa Records collaborations with taongo pūoro players Ruby Solly & Alistair Fraser, synth duo Oghum (Nell Thomas & Jonny Marks), and a group including Riki Gooch, Cory Champion and Daniel Beban. Noa Records will also host a wānanga / talanoa on the opening evening — "sharing the whakapapa of their label / collective, exploring observations amassed during their creative journeys, and opening up conversations around creative sustainability from an indigenised perspective, looking to tools for strengthening our creative communities, and exploring new depths as yet unknown."
Ahead of the residency, Noa Records are collaborating with Tāmaki Makaurau's Audio Foundation for tonight's Fono o Lagi — "a night of musical talanoa between sonic kin, surfacing as a three-part improvised musical discourse: percussion / drum conversation, melodic / harmonic-spatial conversation, and then ending with an integrated conversation combining all parts /voices."
