Henika Shares Title Track To New Album 'Strange Creatures' + Video
Slovakia-New Zealand experimental pop artist Henika aka Henrieta Tornyai swoops into autumn this morning with the title track from her upcoming album Strange Creatures. Move over The Beths, Henika has well and truly stolen the title of Aotearoa's biggest musical bird nerd. Not only has she used tūī, korimako, kōkako and kākāpō song as the track's building blocks, she also directed the totally bananas accompanying video set in an alternate avian timeline. Finalist for the 2017 Auckland Live Best Independent Debut Award, Henika recorded the bones of 'Strange Creatures' in a few of the country's predator free sanctuaries, and will be donating all profits to The Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi, the volunteers who work on the island where she made the majority of the song's field recordings — all the more reason to head to her Bandcamp. This Saturday you can attend a virtual meet and greet with Henika via a Facebook livestream, where she'll perform the forthcoming album in its entirety and be answering any burning questions from 8:30pm NZST. And once you watch the 'Strange Creatures' video below (featuring an extended intro), you're bound to have a few questions...
