The Chills Announce New Album 'Scatterbrain' + Unveil Single / Video 'Monolith'
As the old adage goes: those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. The subject of directors Julia Parnell and Rob Curry's superb documentary The Chills: The Triumph & Tragedy of Martin Phillipps, Dunedin music legend Martin Phillipps knows all about peering through the mists of time. He's revealed there's a new record from The Chills on the way named Scatterbrain, and unfurled the album's upbeat lead single — pondering lessons we can learn from ancient cultures and perhaps nodding in the direction of Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey with 'Monolith'. The song's stylish animated video by Jonny Sanders deftly collages together dusty UFO magazines from the 1970s, in sync with 'Monolith's timeless theme...
"There are hard but important truths in our history. I know that it's often said that you learn from those lessons or you'll end up repeating the mistakes. So one should respect and consider the ancient ways. You belittle them at your peril." — Martin Phillipps
'Scatterbrain' is out on Friday 14th May via Fire Records, pre-orders are available now.
