Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau Fundraiser Announced - Earth Tongue, Theia, Aw B + More
This summer's wonderful Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau commenced on Monday, helping "young women, transgender and gender-non-conforming youth (12-17) form bands, build instrumental skills, and write original songs" in a safe, supportive space. To ensure the week-long programme of workshops and classes keeps thriving long into the future, Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau have organised a special fundraiser event, showcasing exceptional artists from throughout Aotearoa's music community who've generously shared their time and knowledge with our next generation of superstars. Performing at Whammy Bar this coming Friday will be fruit juice parade, Francisca Griffin (of Look Blue Go Purple), Earth Tongue, THEIA and DJ AW B, with all funds to be donated to aid the work of Girls Rock Camp. Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau has been helping young women, transgender and gender-non-conforming youth (12-17) form bands, build instrumental skills, and write original songs since 2018.
Girls Rock 2021 is being held NOW - Monday 18 January to Saturday 23 January 2021.
To help raise funds for this wonderful programme, and to support the future of music in Aotearoa, Whammy has enlisted some serious local talent and is holding a fundraiser this Friday, 22nd January. Performing across the night is Te Papaioea emo duo fruit juice parade, Ōtepoti singer and multi-instrumentalist Francisca Griffin of pivotal Flying Nun jangle-pop group Look Blue Go Purple, psychedelic fuzz duo Earth Tongue, one of the most exciting pop voices to emerge from Aotearoa THEIA and Tāmaki Makaurau Producer and DJ AW B.
Tickets will be $20 and all proceeds from the evening will be donated to aid the work of Girls Rock Camp. Tickets will be on sale from 12pm, Tuesday 19th January via undertheradar.co.nz
