Cut Off Your Hands Share Single 'Blue Smoke Draft'
Cut Off Your Hands are wrapping up their storied career with a big fancy bow this month, marking the significance of the occasion with two send-off events in Tāmaki Makaurau and Pōneke, in conjunction with the launch of their third and final album HLLH (Higher Lows and Lower Highs) on 16th October. To whip fans into a fervour (and making us a bit sad about what we'll be missing out on in the future), the much-beloved team of Philip Hadfield, Brent Harris and Nick Johnston with production wiz Jeremy Toy (Leonard Simpson Duo) have revealed new single ‘Blue Smoke Draft’. A widescreen number in sync with COHY's dance-floor friendly late period anthems 'Hate Somebody', 'Higher Lows and Lower Highs' and 'On The Sea', 'Blue Smoke Draft’ documents the band in more of a swoony balladic mode, with a title resonating throughout history and lyrics drawing inspiration from Johnston's memories of listening to Aotearoa classic ‘Blue Smoke’ with his grandfather — helping connect the singer / guitarist both with family and reignite his love for local music.
Gearing up for their final ever shows this month, Cut Off Your Hands have also lifted the lid on the lineup for their all-star eight piece live band. Alongside Hadfield on bass, Harris on drums and Johnston handling vocals and guitar duties will be Jeremy Toy on guitars, family members Luke Benge (Paselode, John Maus) and Priya Sami (Dateline, Trip Pony) on synths / keys and percussion / vocals respectively, and Elisapeta Heta and Soane Tui (Courtroom Brown) on vocals. The setlist will be a career-spanning affair, even including songs from the early stage of COYH's career, when they were tearing up stages across Aotearoa under the name Shaky Hands. Take note of the details below and enjoy 'Blue Smoke Draft'...
