Pōneke folk-blues singer and guitarist Darren Watson has unveiled his presciently titled new album Getting Sober For The End Of The World. Written, produced and recorded by Watson, the former Chicago Smokeshop frontman is indeed a 'Self Made' man on his seventh studio long player, expounding on such themes as avoiding alcohol abuse (the title track), paranoia-fuelled violence ('Ernie Abbott') and the bold arrow of time ('Another Day') across the record's nine tracks. Along with his own compositions there's also a rustic rendition of Robert Johnson's venerable 'Preachin' Blues (Up Jumped The Devil)' plus a lush cover of NZ songwriter Matt Hay's 'Love That I Had' too.
