Mary Lattimore Shares Lush Title Track To New Album 'Silver Ladders'

Annabel Kean / Thursday 17th September, 2020 11:37AM

There's good reason for the latest offering from LA-based harpist Mary Lattimore's next collection to evoke sparkling images of the sea, given the album grew from a moment performing at a cliffside wedding in Croatia. Title track 'Silver Ladders' is named for the ladders that plunge straight into the ocean in the nearby bays, with harp that glints like metal in the sun, or the glittering crests in the waves by the tiny Cornwell town the song was recorded in. Usually an artist to self-record and produce, this time around Lattimore worked with Neil Halstead (Slowdive) in his Newquay home, population 20,000. Three tracks in, Silver Ladders already displays a dark streak running through its otherwise breathtaking beauty, pinned down by this mood board of sorts:

"The Cornish landscape, the hotel from the movie The Witches, the cream tea, winning the pub quiz, the Sunday Roast, the ghosts of all of the surfers who had died in the wild waves, the night walks to the top of the hill to see the moon shining on the water."
