Spook The Horses Announce NZ Tour + Share Single / Video 'Cell Death'
With their fourth studio album Empty Body ready to drop in late August via European imprint Pelagic Records, Pōneke's Spook The Horses have announced a four date nationwide tour in celebration of the record, in conjunction with in-the-red latest cut 'Cell Death'. Directed by Nik Brinkman, the accompanying clip for 'Cell Death' showcases the projected visual work of the band's Max Telfer, engulfing Spook The Horses in waves of brain-zapping strobing shapes as they tear through their latest epic. Lead singer Callum Gay spoke about how Empty Body opened up new sonic pathways for Spook The Horses...
"Since we started work on People Use to Live Here (PUtLH) years ago we knew the album would need a follow-up that was radically different - almost spitefully different - if only to utterly refuse any trite suggestion that we might be “maturing” or mellowing out with time...
We’d written the song Self Destroyer (the first single from Empty Body) somehow concurrently with the early PUtLH demos and it had a sense of momentum to it that immediately engaged us. Once that energy was there it was an obvious choice for the next record, compressing our intuitive emotive peaks into raw forward motion. We all wrote collectively with the new focus in mind."

Press release:
Wellington metal stalwarts Spook the Horses have announced four shows across New Zealand in support of their forthcoming album Empty Body.
In addition, today they release their second single Cell Death with a live video that gives a taste of their distinct live show.
Directed by Nik Brinkman, the new video shows the band playing in front of hypnotic visuals created by artist and band member Max Telfer.
The band will play Meow in Wellington on September 4, Club Tavern in Christchurch on October 23, Dunedin at Dive Bar on October 24 and Whammy Bar in Auckland on November 7.
Tickets are on sale now for the tour, where the band will be supported by Soda Boyz and Secrets of the Sun in Wellington, Blindfolded & Led to the Woods and Troika in Christchurch, Troika and Death and the Maiden in Dunedin and Bridge Burner in Auckland.
Empty Body is the band's fourth and latest release, and second on European label Pelagic Records. After the calm and sublime People Use To Live Here in 2017, the new album is a turbulent renewal of the lacerating heaviness present in their earliest work.
Refined, precise, awash with texture and laden with crushing riffs, Empty Body is an intensification of Spook the Horses' distinct voices into a roaring chorus.
