'NZ Hip Hop Stand Up' Web Series Announced
A seven episode web series celebrating thirty years of hip hop in Aotearoa is launching this month, named NZ Hip Hop Stand Up after Scribe's era-defining 2003 single. Directed by Chris Graham, produced by The Down Low Concept and presented by RNZ with the support of NZ On Air's Innovation Fund, each episode will showcase an iconic local hip hop track "with artists of all generations discussing its importance and relevance to New Zealand and NZ hip hop." Kicking off proceedings with Upper Hutt Posse's pioneering 1988 single ‘E Tū’ (announced as the Independent Music NZ Classic Record in 2016), the series will wrap it all up with a focus on Tāmaki Makaurau rising stars Church & AP's red hot 2018 hit ‘Ready Or Not’. Artists spotlighted in NZ Hip Hop Stand Up include King Kapisi, Sheelahroc, Sisters Underground and Smashproof, with Ladi6, Scribe and King Kapisi acting as consultants for the series.
