Phoebe Bridgers Shares New Album 'Punisher'
US folk-pop songwriter and deadpan meme queen Phoebe Bridgers has unveiled her eagerly awaited sophomore album Punisher. Although aurally warmer, brighter and more dynamic than her 2018 debut Stranger In The Alps, Punisher is just as wry lyrically. In a way, this album feels like a continuation of the hugely popular 'Motion Sickness', with sweeping strings and a reassuring presence of bubbling percussion and bass weaving through the bulk of the new tracks. Bridgers' Boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus feature on closing songs 'Graceland Too' and 'I Know The End'. Each go full-blown folk, almost country, save for the Sufjan Stevens-esque last two minutes or so on 'I Know The End', when Bright Eyes’ Nathaniel Walcott adds to the clamour with triumphant horns, and fellow Better Oblivion Community Center member Conor Oberst joins in on the erupting chorus of voices and straight up screams. The singer joins The National in Aotearoa later this year (hopefully) for two Tāmaki Makaurau shows, check the details here...
