Watch Damon Albarn's Boiler Room Livestream Solo Performance
Following up April's surprise unveiling of a long-lost Oasis single, it's only right we balance out the Yin and the Yang by highlighting what their legendary rival, Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn, has been working on. Along with a run of Gorillaz singles in 2020, featuring the star-studded likes of Slowthai, Fatoumata Diawara, Skepta, New Order's Peter Hook and recently deceased Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen, Albarn found the time to squeeze in a special piano-led livestream show for Boiler Room. Originally scheduled to be touring Europe performing his project The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows with conductor André de Ridder and an ensemble of 14 musicians and 4 singers, Albarn instead treated viewers to a necessarily stripped-back solo rendition of the panoramic work in progress, accompanied by recordings from rehearsals and inspired by the landscapes of Iceland. Take in the contemplative 21 minute piece, played live in the intimate surrounds of Albarn’s home studio (appropriately named The Barn) right here...
