The East Pointers Announce New Zealand Tour
Canadian contemporary folk stars The East Pointers are bringing their Celtic-inflected tunes to Aotearoa for an extensive tour of our shores in March and April 2020. Winners of the Ensemble of the Year award at the 12th Canadian Folk Music Awards and recipients of the Traditional Roots Album of the Year prize at the 2017 JUNO Awards, the group are adept at an age-spanning range of instruments – with Tim Chaisson handling vocals, fiddle and drum machine, Koady Chaisson covering banjo, tenor guitar and Moog, and Jake Charron on guitar and keyboards. They'll be touring their brand new third studio record Yours To Break, which released just last Friday, furthering The East Pointers' creative vision into flamenco and Americana-inspired realms. Koady Chaisson shared his excitement about the new album, stating "I feel like this album is the best expression to date of the band’s appreciation for so many different types of music and the fact that we as a band are comfortable enough in our own musical voice to start expressing those influences and loves." UPDATE 16/03/20: The East Pointers have cancelled their March / April Aotearoa tour and shared the following statement via social media...
"Australia and New Zealand. It’s after much thought and deepest sadness that we have decided to cancel the remaining dates on our tour of your beautiful countries. All tickets will be refunded.
The current state of the Coronavirus has really made the decision for us. We can’t, in good conscience, continue to be the focal point for gatherings. We love our sweaty, dancey fans too much and your health and safety is too important to us! It’s a crazy time for everyone, know that we love you all very very much and will be back to play shows for you as soon as possible! We wish venues and festivals all the very best in navigating this strange time. Stay safe, stay calm and take care of one another! ❤ TEP"

Press release:
The East Pointers have always been musically complex and technically brilliant, the core is definitely traditional Celtic, but on the new album, fiddle tunes are grounded in complex rumbling bass lines, a dirty Americana exploration turns on a dime into a lighthearted guitar feature with flamenco reference palmas, playful keyboard tones turn traditional solos into urgent dance-party journeys, and off-the-leash festival jam sessions give rise to vocal numbers that are either perfect pop songs or moving tributes to the home and people they love.
Redefining the ever-evolving genre – modern folk – with Billboard-worthy pop hooks, deep acoustic groove, trance-like trad breakdowns and three-part harmonies, Tim Chaisson (vocals/fiddle/percussion), Koady Chaisson (banjo/tenor guitar/moog) and Jake Charron (guitar/keyboards), already internationally acknowledged as musical trailblazers, have made sure their new album Yours To Break (out October 25th) will light a path for a new generation of music lovers who don’t care for labels.
