'Awful' and its b-side 'Bully' are crystalline and minimal, with Irwin’s tender, melancholy vocal, and hypnotic guitar lines framed by a propulsive, matter-of-fact rhythm section. It’s gorgeous night driving music and ends on one of the most impressively long fade-outs this side of Eno's 'Taking Tiger Mountain'.
