Dudley Benson Shares 'Matariki' Remixes Collection
Ōtepoti-based experimental pop-artist Dudley Benson is diving deep into his stunning 2018 album Zealandia. In July, a month into the Māori New Year, Benson dropped an eye-popping animated clip for track 'Matariki' – this month he shares five dynamic new remixes of the song. German electronic artist Barbara Morgenstern transforms 'Matariki' into a gentle, piano-kissed duet, and Pōneke vaporwave producer Eyeliner gave 'Matariki' a stripped back, 80s treatment with beefy bass and gated drums, along with sonic re-imaginings by KTN, Kolya and Jerry Watts.
Speaking to Fame Magazine, Benson explained the evolution of Zealandia, "I was thinking about what kind of life the songs would have after the album came out. Usually they’d become part of a live performance, but I was really clear that playing this album live with its many elements would be too difficult, at least in the short term. So remixing the album was a goal right from the go". In the mean time, he’s shaken off the orchestra and choir he recruited for the Zealandia recording and set off on an ambitious solo tour across Europe and the UK, which kicked off last weekend and runs through to early October.
