Premiere: Surf Friends Share Single 'Outdoors' + Video
Summer's come unbelievably early with the release of 'Outdoors', the lead single from Tāmaki Makaurau guitar / electronics duo Surf Friends' new album Doing Your Thing, dropping in mid-2019 via the fine folk at Flying Nun Records. The team of Brad Coley (on vocals, guitar, drum machine / sampling / programming) and Peter Westmoreland (handling vocals and bass – he also adeptly delivers the Surf Report on 95bFM) ride a wave of upbeat catchy goodness with 'Outdoors', encouraging listeners to get off their lazy bums and get amongst it. We're stoked to premiere the song along with a video created by Mark Howden aka WHAT RECORDS, featuring the energetic pair hitting the beach and vibing with nature's splendour at the Hibiscus Coast's Red Beach, and jamming out in-studio at Devonport's Depot Sound. Surf Friends were roundly considered a highlight of March's Field Of Dreams festival, Aucklanders can catch them tearing it up for free this Friday evening at Ellen Melville Hall with DJ Tina Turntables, as part of 95bFM's weekly Drive Island all-ages series of events in celebration of NZ Music Month.
Surf Friends explained the origins of their infectious new single and clip, "Outdoors stemmed from a jam at Creative House in Parnell, it was then worked on and recorded in Stanmore Bay 2017, then re-recorded and finalised in Orewa 2018. The song speaks for itself, it is about getting outdoors. The track was recorded by us, mix, produced and mastered by Mark Howden in Dunedin. Mark Howden also made the video, he filmed some of it, and we filmed some of it on a Sunday afternoon in Red Beach. There is also some old footage from probably 2012 at the Art Depot in Devonport which is pretty cool as when we first formed between approx. 2009 - 2012 we use to spend a lot of time jamming there (also filmed by Mark)."
'Doing Your Thing' drops mid-year via Flying Nun Records.
