The National Share Short Film 'I Am Easy To Find'
Ohio indie rock icons The National have unveiled a short film created in collaboration with Academy Award-nominated director Mike Mills (20th Century Women, Beginners) and starring Swedish actress Alicia Vikander (who played Lara Croft in 2018's Tomb Raider). Titled I Am Easy To Find, the 24 minute audio-visual work shares its name with the band's highly anticipated eighth studio album releasing this Friday. They've described the film as a standalone accompanying piece and explicitly not a music video for the record, saying they're "playfully hostile siblings that love to steal from each other”.
Director Mike Mills unpacked the interrelated yet creatively independent relationship between his film and The National's upcoming album, stating “The National gave me the stems for their songs, some were sketches some were finished and encouraged and allowed me to create my own versions of the songs to score the film. The album then features different versions of these same 7 songs — and 9 new songs which sometimes refer to the themes, texts, ideas from the film — but are their own work, their own piece of art.”
'I Am Easy To Find' is out Friday 17th May via 4AD.
