Auckland's Kingsland Announce National Tour + Share Single 'The Motto'
Auckland rock-pop crew Kingsland are jumping in the van with Christchurch garage rockers Egovalve for a four date national tour in May, and have dropped a rousing new tune titled 'The Motto'. Recorded by Dave Rhodes at Devonport's Depot Sound and following the band’s 2017 collection Running from the Apex, the single draws lyrical inspiration from lead vocalist Will Giles' recovery from a serious car accident, which required him to learn how to walk and talk again. Giles explains, “I wrote the lyrics when I was feeling real good about life then during the time in the hospital, it was the only recording of ours that I had to listen to. It was very haunting in some ways to be able to listen to myself sing when I couldn’t talk. It was terrifying not knowing whether I’d get better – you feel like a downgraded version of yourself. The song has a deeper meaning to me now, like I sing that now and it feels way more powerful.”
