Listen To Two Reworks Of Sandy Mill's 'Charade'
New Zealand soul legend Sandy Mill has unveiled a pair of reworks of her song 'Charade', drawn from this year's five track collection A Piece Of Me. The emotive original has been treated to re-imaginings by Aotearoa-via-Manchester DJ Dick Johnson and English rock supergroup Love Amongst Ruin, aka the project of Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt. Dick Johnson remixes 'Charade' as a club-focused sun-drenched summer banger while Love Amongst Ruin put a haunting, almost cinematic spin on their version of the tune. Local punters can catch Mill playing with her band at Waiheke Summerfest 2019 in late January, she shared her enthusiasm for both new tracks in a statement...
“This is very much a summertime mix, Dick has managed to lift ‘Charade’ to another place, with lush instrumentation & percussion. A gorgeous groove made for the dance floor, backyard bbq and those long summer road trips.
My mate Steve [Hewitt] loved ‘Charade’ so much he offered to remix it! I was super chuffed. He has given the song a totally different lean, pitched the vocal down added drum machine and Synths. I love how its transformed into a dark, goth feel”.
Sandy Mill and her full band are playing at The Eclectic Garden at Auckland's Corban Estate on Saturday 1st December, and at Waiheke Summer Fest on Saturday 26th January.
