Press Release:
'Will Wood has been around the Auckland music scene for a long time, or at least was until he packed up and left for Europe. After taking a job as a bartender at the Wine Cellar as a tender 19 year old he did his best to join as many bands and projects as possible, mostly as a drummer before he ended up starting a career as a singer-songwriter in 2014 when he released his first solo record ‘Broken Man’ on Lyttelton Records.
Alongside his day job as a psychiatric nurse at Middlemore Hospital and weekend nights spent working the bars and the door at Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar, during his time in Auckland he played in a plethora of Auckland bands including Parents, Bernie Griffen & The Grifters. The Murderchord and The Last Minute Boys, and has collaborated on stage and in the studio with artists like Oscar Dowling, Tom Cunliffe, Reb Fountain, Marlon Williams, Delaney Davidson and Tami Neilson to name a few. After his first European tour in 2014 visits to the continent to play bars, squats, festivals and living rooms became an annual affair that culminated in permanently relocating to Berlin in 2016 so he could spend more time playing on the European circuit.
On December 21st Will returns to his spiritual home The Wine Cellar with long-time collaborators Reb Fountain, Dave Khan, Hopetoun Brown and Tourettes for his first hometown gig in nearly 3 years, drawing on material from his two critically acclaimed solo records plus new songs off his upcoming third record, half of which was recorded with Ben Edwards in Lyttelton in April 2016 featuring Reb Fountain, Nick Atkinson, Steven Huf, Tom Landon-Lane, Joe McCallum and Tourettes, the other half recorded after moving to Europe in an analogue studio in Leipzig.'
