Premiere: DEAF Unveil Self-Titled Debut EP
Wellington post-punk / dream-pop crew DEAF have unveiled their highly anticipated self-titled debut EP, following an attention-grabbing rapid-fire run of singles, stylish videos and live shows, including a support slot for vampiric Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy. The collection showcases five finely honed tracks including the collection's energised new lead single 'Dead End' from the team of Luke Kavanagh, Hayden Ellis, Craig Rattray, Mat Machray and Jarrod Crossland. Members have previously contributed their talents to such significant local combos as Sunken Seas and Tiddabades, DEAF kindly took time out to lift the lid on how their first ever EP came together and the origins of the band...
"All songs were recorded over a hazy weekend in March '18, at Blue Barn studio's with James Goldsmith, we had about 7-8 songs down but just banged out the five ones we felt were most representative of where we were at.
Re: the formation of the band - it happened quite serendipitously and all at once - we had only been together five minutes and all of a sudden had recorded music and had been booked to play the Shadowplay Autumn '18 show. Next few minutes after that, Peter Murphy is on the blower.
We'll get over to Australia in the new year all being well, would love to get down to Dunedin. Generally the idea same as it ever was, is to write some new songs, put out a full length-er, Play some shows. Rinse, repeat, enjoy ourselves."
DEAF are playing with New Age Leper at Wellington's San Fran on Wednesday 21st November.
