Premiere: Créme Jéan Shares Garage-Pop Single 'Atrophy'

Monday 22nd October, 2018 11:01AM

Auckland's Créme Jéan aka Bradley Fafejta is on a roll - his first release 'Sleepin' (At My House)' was an infectiously catchy lo-fi pop debut, his new solo project with live band The Family is supporting local cyber-pop star Princess Chelsea and playing at Whammyfest 2018 this week, plus he very recently became a dad! Créme Jéan has somehow found a moment to squeeze out sophomore single 'Atrophy', a skewed garage-pop reflection on the merciless march of time, showcasing a mutant blend of needling guitar melodies, psychedelic keys and Fafejta's husky vocal croon. The relatable number was mixed by James Dansey (Hang Loose, The Sneaks) at Wall of Shit Studios and is the latest track unveiled from Créme Jéan's forthcoming debut album Neapolitan, due to drop in late 2018. A prime mover behind such party-starting musical entities as Thousand Island, Brand New Math, TeenWolf and DJ4EVA, Fafejta opened up about the themes expressed in 'Atrophy', read his words and listen below...

“['Atrophy' is] ...literally gallows humour. It’s inevitable to grow and change and eventually decline. I worry, probably too much that I’ll wake up one day to find I’ve flipped and turned into some kinda Mike Hoskings, Mark Richardson asshole - some angry, entitled old man calling into talkback stations, spending all day in Facebook arguments that go nowhere. That’s pretty much the heart of the song. I mean... I don’t think it’ll happen, but at the same time that’s life. ‘20 year old me’ would probably call me a sellout for writing a press release for this single.”

Créme Jéan and The Family play with Princess Chelsea at Auckland's Hollywood Avondale on Friday 26th October and at Leigh Sawmill Cafe on Saturday 27th October, for tickets and more info head along over here.
