Connan Mockasin Unveils New Album 'Jassbusters'
Internationally celebrated New Zealand-born psychedelic pop artist Connan Mockasin has unveiled his long-awaited third studio album Jassbusters, which is being rolled out in tandem with the artist's five-part directorial debut Bostyn ’n Dobsyn. Something of a conceptual release, Jassbusters is Mockasin's first full length collection with live band, collecting together eight otherworldly guitar-pop numbers documenting the recordings of an eponymously-named fictional band of music teachers depicted in his movie.
Bostyn ’n Dobsyn reportedly draws on stories created by Mockasin as DIY comic books in his home town of Te Awanga more than twenty years ago, with the multi-talented artist playing the part of Bostyn and his childhood next door neighbour Blake Pryor playing Dobsyn. Mockasin is currently touring his film and live band in theatres and concert halls across the US and Europe, crossed fingers the full audio-visual experience will be heading to Aotearoa soon. We've already heard the meanderingly raunchy 'Charlotte's Thong' and foot-tapping lead single 'Con Conn Was Impatient', stream Jassbusters here, and check out a cheekily self-released alternate "leaked" version of the album recently shared by Mockasin below...
'Jassbusters' is out now via Mexican Summer.
