Premiere: Alae Share Dreamy Video 'All Gived Up'
Auckland indie-folk four-piece Alae have unveiled a cinematic video for their heartfelt single ‘All Gived Up’. Directed by Mikee Carpinter, the clip features kaleidoscopic animated figures drifting through gorgeously filmed late night environments, with the shoot featuring bucketloads of garden hose faux-rain drenching the band and friends. Alae are releasing their long-awaited debut full length collection Henry St in late October and are hitting the road for a five date tour to celebrate in November and December. Vocalist Alex Farrel-Davey recounted the experience of creating the clip and shared some insight into the song’s transformation over the years...
“When you get past the pain barrier and start to feel really dramatic, you’re like ‘Yeah I’m in a movie and it’s all artsy and shit’ it feels nice.... but then you forget about all that and realize ‘Hey, I’m freezing my arse off here, oh this IS shit!’ (laughs)
'All Gived Up’ is the first song that Allister and I wrote together as ‘alae’. For 2 years now we’ve been playing it live, developing it, and wondering if we could have done better. With the addition of Marika and Jayden to the mix, we felt as though the song, and the band has grown so much, that we couldn’t not re-record it. Now we can give it the treatment it truly deserves.
[The song] is, ‘thematically’ - a transformative song. It’s the type of song that grows, and evolves ‘with’ the listener. Basing itself around the naive and self righteous assumptions we make when we’re first presented with problematic situations. It teaches us to try, and to keep trying because that is literally the only thing in this world that you do have any control over.”
Alae's debut album 'Henry St' is out Friday 26th October.
