Live Photos: Primal Scream - The Powerstation, Auckland
Bobby Gillespie's pioneering dance-rock group Primal Scream returned to Aotearoa after seven years over the weekend, running through a raft of in-the-red hits at Auckland's Powerstation and at Christchurch's Electric Avenue Festival. The Auckland show wasn't without its hiccups, it needed to be rescheduled from Friday to Sunday due to bass player Simone Butler coming down with a nasty strain of the flu. She was still out for the count last night, replaced by a stylishly dressed mannequin and backing tracks, but the rest of the group impressed under hot pink lights, a svelte Gillespie looking dapper with his flared suit and tambourine. Primal Scream's long-awaited set covered tunes from their latest album Chaosmosis and a hugely impactful career which stretches all the way back to the early eighties. As expected, the crowd was loving it, check out photographer Amanda Ratcliffe's great pics of the evening...
