Premiere: Emily Fairlight Shares Nostalgic Single 'The Escape' + Video
Wellington artist Emily Fairlight has unveiled her latest single 'The Escape', a sumptuous slice of jangling alt-folk which features percussionist Cully Symington (of Bright Eyes and Okkervil River) and is accompanied by a nostalgic-tinged video by director Julian Vares. The charming visuals depict Fairlight and a friend getting up to some summer fun, navigating a confidence course and cycling through suburban pathways, with tender moments hinting at a blossoming romance.
Talking about the clip, Fairlight said "The video I hoped would inspire a sense of nostalgia, about how much easier things were when we were kids, hence the temporary escape from the responsibilities of adult life. I guess I see myself as someone who didn't fully grow up, never bought the house or had the kids, and that in itself can be a kind of purgatory. So the video is like a brief insight to those two different lives, how they relate, and how they separate.”
You can catch Emily Fairlight celebrating the video's launch at Wellington's BATS Theatre tonight. It's the latest teaser for her upcoming sophomore album Private Apocalypse due out this year, experience 'The Escape' below...
Emily Fairlight will be playing alongside Chicago artists Thompson Springs this coming Friday 23rd February at Wellington's Meow.
