Here's Five: Hometown Bands All Seeing Hand Will Miss Terribly While They're In China
Wellington's All Seeing Hand recently announced they are spending the better part of September and October touring China - a move which makes a lot of sense when you consider the multi-cultured influences which run through the band. From the Mongolian throat-singing which is the proverbial cherry on the band's sonic cake to the musical anthropology of the crate-digging culture which is evident in the world class turntablism exhibited by Alphabethead, the trio's deck-master, it's clear that a sound as dense and complex as theirs isn't summoned from a single source. In preparation of their voyage, the three-piece showed us that home is also where the heart and shared the sounds of five Wellington bands they will miss terribly while touring abroad...
1. Hex - 'Runes and Ruins'
Over the last year we’ve been lucky enough to play a bunch of shows with the magical powerhouse that is Hex, including last Friday at the Others Way. This is their latest video and it is a banger! We have been shocked and delighted by recent allegations that we may be planning a Rock Opera together…
2. Womb - 'Feeling Like Helium'
Seeing Womb perform is a heart-meltingly beautiful experience, every single time. This is the first song from the batch of new tunes they recorded for their impending album, which we are very very very excited about!
3. Orchestra of Spheres - 'Rocket Number 9'
The entrancing wonder of Orchestra of Spheres has been an inspiration to the All Seeing Hand ever since we started making music together. This video is an epic inter-dimensional freakout made by the filmmaker Dan Harris, who is also joining us in China. What a combo!
4. Strange Stains -'Somebody Else’s House'
Strange Stains is the musical outlet of the artist Cooki Stains, and it is sooo good. Her live shows are amazing, and this video sums up the twisted joy of her art.
5. Earth Tongue - 'Portable Shrine'
Earth Tongue are a powerful force that we have loved playing shows alongside. This was the first song Earth Tongue released, and they’re just going from strength to strength. We're stoked they are joining us for the show on Friday, as they get ready to head off on some adventures of their own.
If you live in Wellington, you can catch The All Seeing Hand tonight at Meow with Name UL, Earth Tongue and Bizznet. For more tickets and more details, head over HERE.
