Weekly Round Up: Friday 30th June
Things were a bit quiet on the tour announce front this week! However the first line-up for Northern Bass festival was revealed and will see international acts including Goldie, Stormzy and Post Malone go shoulder to shoulder over New Year's with homegrown talent including the likes of Kamandi, JessB and Salmonella Dub who will be joined by former bandmate Tiki Taane.
Things were certainly busier on the international release front, highlights include the bouncy new single 'Cred Woe' from Liars' upcoming album TCFC. Tyler The Creator surfaced with a great new cut featuring A$AP Rocky and a rather unsettling video by his alter ego Wolf Haley. The xx shared a clip for 'I Dare You' starring Michael Jackson's daughter Paris and Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown. NYC rapper Princess Nokia let loose her feisty single 'G.O.A.T' to mark her signing to Rough Trade Records. Kendrick Lamar shook out a thought-provoking visual offering for 'Element'. And Japanese trio Boris unveiled a new single from their upcoming album Dear, out next month via Sergeant House.
In local news, we are hyped to finally get our hands on the new record Two Hearts and No Brain from Dunedin songsmith Kane Strang. Producer Montell2099 dropped his new single 'Hunnid On The Drop' which was cooked up at the Red Bull Studios in collaboration with Atlantan rapper 21 Savage. Northland shredders Alien Weaponry paid homage to their ancestors with their new te reo thrash metal cut 'Ru Ana Te Whenua'. And Wellington post-rock group Hiboux released an extraterrestrial offering for their single 'Mausethal' ahead of their upcoming shows across the ditch.
This week's Caught Live is 60s proto-punk sister act The Shaggs coming together to perform for the first time in 18 years (minus drummer Helen Wiggins who sadly passed away in 2006), as part of Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, MA. Here they are with 'My Pal Foot Foot'...
