Weekly Round Up: Friday 19th May
Tour news this week saw some great local acts lining things up, starting with ex-pat Finn Andrews of The Veils who will be arriving on hometurf for three shows next month. Tiny Ruins announced an extensive winter tour and promised to play songs from their upcoming third album. Wellington-based outfit Glass Vaults announced four-date tour to support the release of their new album The New Happy. Capital city post-rock crew Hiboux revealed a raft of dates across New Zealand and Australia to celebrate the unveiling of their debut album. Meanwhile we're looking forward to a visit from Melbourne smackwave artist Spike Fuck who is playing three North Island shows in June. And to top off the week Ministry announced their first New Zealand shows in more than 20 years.
In release news highlights, we were hyped to catch word that Angus Andrew has announced a new Liars album for August, which is the group's first since 2014's Mess. We were also stoked that Grizzly Bear are coming out of hibernation to release their first album since 2012 in the form of Painted Ruins, from which they have shared new singles 'Three Rings' and 'Mourning Sound'. Also on the cooker is a record from Scottish post-rock crew Mogwai, who are looking to release new album Every Country's Sun in September. Closer to home, Aldous Harding has released her hotly anticipated sophomore album Party, which you can stream over here. The Situations unveiled a transcontinental clip for their excellent single 'PCY's Everlasting Journey' from their latest album Forever Scene Changes. And Auckland artist A.C. Freazy has let loose new single 'Love In Other Places' as the follow-up to his recent radio hit 'Creeping In'.
For this week's Caught Live we're delighted to share this great clip of "Fran" aka Bar Group up at the Radio One 91FM studios in Dunedin for a live-to-air performance recently..
