Birdstriking Announce Two New Zealand Shows For February
Beijing noise rock outfit Birdstriking are winging their way to New Zealand for two shows later this month. The outspoken group, whose lyrics discuss the Chinese media, freedom of information and censorship, started life at now-defunct underground nightclub D-22 - a venue that burst onto the Beijing music scene in 2006 and was modelled on the infamous New York club CBGB. The four-piece are bringing their frenetic live show to New Zealand for two shows only, before they embark on an Australian tour with their Maybe Mars labelmates, Carsick Cars. Birdstriking were one of the most important bands to emerge from the Chinese DIY scene based around the legendary D22 venue.
Birdstriking have toured the UK with the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and China with Die! Die! Die! The Noise Punk band have been likened to a Chinese Surf City, highlighted by their unflinching obsession with Sonic Youth and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Birdstriking will play only two shows in New Zealand before their Australian tour with label mates Carsick Cars.
