Slightly Imperfect consists of Greg Malcolm, Jenny Ward and Erika Grant. Together they will present Ivor Cutler's songs in a surreal and gentle playground of laughing boxes, toys, gongs, bells and whirring pipes. Along with theatrical elements they aim to create a strange and intriguing performance that appeals to all ages. So be ready for absurdity and enchantment.
Greg Malcolm is a guitarist/ composer/improviser/sound artist with an extensive history. He has released many CDs and solo vinyls both nationally and internationally. Most recently he has been touring his Just Like Jim solo vinyl throughout the country and also performing for children in libraries. He has released music for kids and Bird Song, a CD with/by children.
Erika Grant is a musician based in Pōneke, Wellington. She started playing music when she was just a wee bairn -in orchestras and classical ensembles- and since she’s become a grown up she’s played in all sorts of bands, acts and groups, including but not limited to “Orchestra of Spheres”, “Cookie Brooklyn and The Crumbs”, “Fertility Festival” and Rosie Langabeer’s “Best Most Happiest Fun Sexy Cabaret of Good Fortune and Prosperity”. Erika is also an Astrologer and Music Teacher, and is fascinated with the ideas of shamanism, quantum physics, magic and myth
Jenny Ward is a singer and performer who uses toys, objects, and extended vocal techniques in her performance along with theatrics and characterisation. She is also a primary school teacher who has a genuine love and appreciation for performing for and with children. She has been featured on many CDs, and toured and performed in New Zealand and Europe. She has written and directed children’s and youth theatre and created recording projects for and by children.
Hawkes Bay Arts Festival reviewer Jess Soutar Barron stated, “Ward is bewitching and shows total focus, which is beautiful to watch. Musically there is something more here, this is surrealist folk, or free folk, jazz-less improvisation. Using domestic objects and repurposing them to bring out sounds that are deeply human, shows music lies within everything”
