Hail, Meteor! hit the road to make their Whanganui debut. With the lead single ‘Sweet’ from their impending album topping the charts of the Student Radio Network, the band have been far from inactive, writing and recording in their various studios around the country. On May 10th they play tunes from their new album, along with Palmy’s glorious The Fairlight Choir and Napier’s doomgaze duo, Dos-Ovni at Porridge Watson on Drews Avenue. There will be volume, there will be harmonies of strange origins, there will be a whole lot of reverb and deafening sway.
The Fairlight Choir
Hailing from Manawatū and Horowhenua, Aotearoa post-punk outfit The Fairlight Choir are committed to improvisation, repetition and unfiltered transparency of the creative process. The group's debut double-single - Source/Code and The Cord - was conceived, gestated and recorded live & uncut in the rehearsal spaces of Papaioea institution The Stomach.
Comprised of Jeremy Nolan (Force Fields, The Postures, The Dukes of Leisure), Bryan Gibson (Fader, Empirical Methods) and Jono Galuszka (First Move, Man In Rug), The Fairlight Choir takes inspiration from provincial blight, the times we inhabit and fresh approaches to long-held traditions.
Dos-Ovni
Dos-Ovni, a doomgaze duo from Ahuriri, Aotearoa, blends post-rock with dark atmospheric elements. Dee (she/her) and Liv (she/them) bring two decades of musical experience, using a minimalist approach to craft dark textures, reverb-soaked vocals, and atmospheric soundscapes inspired by Chelsea Wolfe, Low, Darkher, and King Woman. Formed in 2021, they've released five singles. This year (2025), they performed at the Newtown Festival, showcasing their haunting sound elevated by their collaboration with producer Nick Blow of Sister Lung Records who has helped them defy the typical constraints of a two-piece outfit.
